Popol Vuh These costumes were commissioned
by the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston to be worn by their Docents to
help showcase their excellent collection of Pre-Colombian Art. Xbalanque
and Hunahpu were the Hero Twins of the Popol Vuh, the Mayan Creation
Myth. The costumes are actually body smoothing leotards with hand painted
appliqués worn under a suede loincloth. They were designed to
fit a variety of body sizes and have been rigged to that effect. Antonia
also designed the jewelry, wigs and headpieces. It's amazing how many
of our various creation myths involve the adventures of twins. |
