Victorian Mourning Dress

This dress was designed for Linda Otto Lipsett, the author of "Elizabeth Rosemary Mitchell's Graveyard Quilt". Ms. Lippsett has written various books on this subject including "How to make an American Quilt", which became a hit movie starring Wynona Ryder. The design of the dress was based on an actual garment worn by Queen Victoria and is in Ms. Lipsett's private collection. She wore this resulting costume during her book tour to promote her Graveyard Quilt book. It is made of black and mauve watermark silk taffeta and has been padded to produce the appropriate silhouette of the times.
